Three mailings have gone out to Town residents since the November Town Board meeting at which, on the motion of Jim Fontaine, seconded by Joe Meyer, the Board approved a public hearing on the 157-page proposed new zoning law. This approval was a determination that the Town Board was ready to enact this law.
Not everyone in the Town got these mailings.
The first mailing was a postcard sent to everyone in the town prior to the January 15, 2025 public hearing, and it was a reminder of the upcoming public hearing. But it used a United States Post Office mailing list that turned out to be substantially out of date, so some addressees were wrong.
The second mailing was sent just after the public hearing to a large random sample of all addresses from a corrected list. This mailing included a stamped postcard addressed to Supervisor Becker about the process that should be followed given the views expressed at the public hearing. About 72% of the recipients sent in their postcard, and there was a nearly unanimous view that substantial time should be spent reviewing and amending the proposed new zoning law.
The third mailing was sent in May with a stamped postcard addressed to the Chair of the Planning Board as the Board’s process to review the proposed law got underway. This mailing went to a smaller sample of all addresses from the list published by the Town Board (as an appendix to the proposed new law) cross-checked with the list from the second mailing. It asked for views on 8 important issues before the Planning Board.
